Home dental care for a healthy smile
Doubts always arise as to the care we should have at home to prevent dental and gum problems. In this post we are going to review all those care and details that we must take into account to minimize the risk of tooth decay, gingivitis and periodontitis.
Manual brush (dental care)
If you use a manual toothbrush, we recommend a soft brush. In addition, we recommend that you do not put too much pressure on the gums to prevent possible gingival retractions or recessions. It should be used 3 times a day with the Bass technique. This technique is followed by using the brush at an angle of 45 degrees towards the gum moving it in an oscillating and circular way. Likewise, it must be ensured that the bristles of the brush penetrate into the margin of the gum. That is, they enter the interface of the tooth and the gum. You also have to clean all the internal surfaces of the teeth.
If we choose to use an electric toothbrush, it is recommended that it have a pressure sensor to avoid damaging the gum. Within the electric brushes we have the rotary and the sonic ones. Each one has advantages and disadvantages that we will review in another post.
Use the floss about 45cm long. Likewise, you have to gently follow the curves of the teeth. It is also important to ensure cleanliness under the gum but without damaging it.
If there are spaces between the teeth or embrasures due to gum loss, the use of interproximal or interdental brushes is recommended. These should be worn between the teeth, going in and out of both the inside and outside.
Mouthwash (dental care)
Mouthwashes are a supplement that is recommended to be used after brushing. This is not a substitute for a toothbrush or dental floss. The choice of mouthwash will largely depend on the needs of each patient.
