What is it?

Periodontics is the specialty that studies the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the gums. Periodontal diseases (gingivitis and periodontitis) are those that affect the gums and in more advanced affecting also the bone that supports the teeth. gingivitis is an inflammation of the gum tissue without involvement of the supporting tissues of the teeth. Often, gingivitis progresses to periodontitis, in which there is an involvement of the tissues that support the roots.
