Frequently asked questions

If you want to improve the appearance of your smile, then any age can be a good age to see the orthodontist. There is No limit. Orthodontic treatment is not exclusive to children and teens, as one out of every five orthodontic patients is over 21 years old.

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children first visit an orthodontist prior to six years of age. Prevention is the best treatment. This age allows us to locate problems that could benefit from early treatment and prevent them. Also, guide the growth of the bones to achieve the best results and to ensure a good development of the adult teeth.

Orthodontic treatment will not prevent you from participating in any of your activities. Playing an instrument can require some adjustment when you place the brackets for the first time. If you play a contact sport, it is recommended that you use a mouthguard to protect your braces or brackets.

The braces do not often hurt though you may feel a little discomfort for a couple days as your teeth, gums, cheeks, and mouth get used to your new braces.
